The RLLE Mela for the MBA-RM 2016-18 batch was held on 16th January 2017 in the Xavier City Campus. This marks the last event of the Rural Living and Learning Experience (RLLE) Component for the Rural Management students of Xavier School of Rural Management. Fr. Paul Fernandes, Vice-Chancellor of Xaiver University inaugurated the Mela at 10.30 AM.

The Xavier School of Rural Management(XSRM) organized the 5th National Symposium on Rural Management (5th NSoRM) from 18th - 19th November, 2016. The symposium provided a platform for practitioner, professionals and students to discuss the emerging challenges, future potentials and share their experiences.
The 5th NSoRM focused on following theme, viz., rural and inclusive finance; agricultural and rural marketing; rural livelihood issues; and the institutional aspects of rural management education.

Xavier School of Sustainability (XSoS), Xavier University, Bhubaneswar (XUB) hosted a significant event, the annual XUB Sustainability Summit - 2016 at XIMB campus and XUB Xavier City Jatni campus, during August 11-13, 2016. The theme of this year's summit was Energy, Peace and Global Governance. The core agenda of the summit was to create a movement for putting energy and peace in the centre of discourse, to mainstream sustainability in management education and to create a platform at XUB for institutional network among all the actors to promote the mentioned theme.

Smart City project gets five independent directors: The appointment of a panel of independent directors has given the Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL) domain experts to advise the new company on execution of the ambitious project. The BSCL already has eight board members and with the appointment of the independent directors, the special purpose vehicle is now fully formed. The state government on Monday appointed the five independent directors to BSCL — Madhav Pai, Saveeta Mohanty, Aamer Azeemi, Sandipan Chakravortty and Bhavin Sheth. Xavier School of Sustainability in association with the United States India Education Foundation (USIEF) hosted a workshop on “Skills for Air Quality Management” (SAQM), Knowledge partners include National Environmental Engineering Research Institute and Green Health Foundation.
There were various eminent speakers, including Dr. Diya Dutt of the USIEF Alumni Association, Dr. Tanutrushna Panigrahi of the Fulbright Indian Alumni Chapter Leader and Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Director CSIR-NEERI.
The one-day HR symposium was organised to familiarize students with current initiatives and challenges in the field of HRM and disseminate views of academia and HR practitioners.
Prof. (Dr.) Snigdha Pattnaik, Dean, XaHR, welcomed the audience and spoke about the importance of gaining different perspectives about HRM from eminent experts from industry and academia.
The topic for the first session was - " HR in the Organization: the Field of Practice ".

The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) , USA, has certified that the MBA-HRM curriculum of Xavier University, Bhubaneswar is aligned with the recommended requirements for HR degree programs as outlined in the SHRM HR Curriculum Guidebook.
This certification places the MBA-HRM programme of XaHR, Xavier University as a globally aligned curriculum programme which is benchmarked against the best academic curriculum standards and therefore is a great milestone in the development of the XaHR as well as XUB.
This is another step forward for internationalizing the academic curriculum and academic environment of Xavier University and standardizing its alignment at the global level.
Prof. Snigdha Pattnaik, Dean, Xavier School of Human Resources Management (XaHR) been awarded with the AARYA AWARD 2016 on 6th March, 2016 at Rabindra Mandap, Bhubaneswar to mark the International Women's Day, by the Parichay Foundation in recognition of her contribution and achievement in the field of education.
The award was presented to her by Hon'ble Union Minister of Tribal Affairs Shri. Jual Oram along with several other dignitaries including the Bhubaneswar North MLA Shri. Priyadarshi Mishra seen in the photograph.

Xavier school of commerce organised its 1st National Conference on Feb.20, 2016. The theme of the conference was “Commerce in 21st Century: Innovations, Trends and Practices”. Prof. Dr. Fr. Paul Fernandes, S.J., Vice chancellor of the university while inaugurating the conference said the commerce graduates have a lot of responsibilities towards mother earth and stressed the need for green accounting.
The conference was attended by many eminent guests, delegates, faculty and students from different colleges and universities. Dr. P.K. Mohanty, dean of the school and convener of the conference delivered the welcome address.
Sri Niten Chandra, IAS, Principal Secretary to Govt., Dept. of Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilitieswas the chief guest on the occasion. In his speech, Sri Chandra said that commerce held the key to every success in 21st century.
CMA Bhabatosh Banerjee, Retd. Professor of Calcutta University and Prof. Banikanta Mishra, Professor of finance were guests of honour in the inaugural session.
A plenary session was held on the theme, “Role of Commerce Education in Nation Building”. CMA Bhabatosh Banerjee, Retd. Professor of Calcutta University, Prof. Hanifof St. Xavier College, Kolkata, Prof. Achalapathyof Osmania University, Hyderabad, CA RajibSahoo, Sr. Practicing Chartered Accountant, spoke on the occasion. Prof. Ranjan K. Bal, Professor, PG Dept. of Commerce, Utkal University, moderated the session.
The speakers were of the view that commerce served both at the macro and micro levels and played a very significant role in “nation building”. Almost all of them unanimously agreed that commerce education was in fact currently at the cross road and required collective effort of both academicians and professionals for a more pragmatic change. While some members stressed the need to align the course curriculum with international standards, others emphasized on the importance of research and industry-academia interface. All the members advised the participants to bring innovation in pedagogy and understand the importance of technology in imparting education.
Research papers were presented by researcher scholars, faculty from different colleges and universities and students of the school of commerce in two technical sessions. Many research topics were well discussed and debated. The sessions were chaired by eminent researchers who gave their expert views after each presentation.
Fr. Tony Uvary, Registrar of the university graced the valedictory session and gave away the certificates and prizes. Prof. Sibanjan Mishra, conference secretary and Prof. RanjanDasgupta, co-convener of the conference proposed vote of thanks in the inaugural session and valedictory session respectively.

The Films Division, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Film Society Bhubaneswar in association with Xavier School of communications, Xavier University organized a three-day film festival at Xavier University, Xavier City campus from 28-30 January 2016. Twenty-four selected documentaries and short films were screened at 14th Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF). Fr. Dr. Paul Fernandes SJ, Vice Chancellor, inaugurated the festival. It is the first of its kind to happen in any university campus in Odisha. National Award-winning Film-makers Mr. Subash Das and Mr. Susant Misra were part of inauguration. Sumoya Mukherjee, Branch Head, Films Division Kolkata spoke on the importance of MIFF.
Mr. Satyajit Puhan, member of Bhubaneswar Film society was the initiator of the event. At the opening ceremony, a few personalities from Odisha film world were honoured. The programme started with the screening of MIFF logo animation film, followed by two films namely “Not a Victim” and “Break-up” produced by the School of Communications.
The students of MA Mass Communication and PG Diploma in Film & TV Production scripted, edited and directed the films. While “Not a Victim” was a part of the course “Directorial Practices,” “Breakup” was scripted and directed by Mr. Abhijit of MA Mass Communication. The students of BSc Mass Communication helped their seniors by acting and assisting in the film production. The films that were screened on all the three days included variety of topics picturing the socio cultural realities, political issues and concerns of the people and the country. Another film “missed call” scripted and directed by Ms. Anubha Sourya, PG Diploma student of XCOMM was shown on the third day and it’s a 22-minute film.
Besides the students of Mass Communication, the students of other schools of XUB watched selected films. A big number of the students of Biju Patnaik Institute For Film and Television, Cuttack, watched the films on the last two days. Number of interested XUB and XIMB faculties, film lovers from in and around Odisha, persons from Doordarshan, OTV and other media houses were also present. “Muzzaffarnagar Eventually” won the appreciation of many viewers for its deft handling of the subject with some bold interviews. “Famous in Ahmedabad,” a film that portrayed kite festival too had captivated the viewers for its colour and the story.
The viewers expressed their impressions, opinions and critical views on the feedback chart kept out side on all 3 days of the festival. On an average viewership of 60-70 people were present in the hall throughout the day and the last day it touched 100 viewers. The effort of the organizers was highly appreciated by everyone. The hall was full for the films like Muzaffarnagar Eventually, Tracking Phalke, 18-feet etc.
A press conference was arranged by the Film society and XCOMM, in which Fr. Lourduraj addressed the media on the significance and the content of it. All the English Newspapers and some Odia dailies carried the information on the next day. The president of film society and the four members’ team were present throughout the festival. Mr. Satyajit guided the students to mark their impression about the films. Mr. Amrit Amlan Pattanaik was the faculty-in-charge of organizing the film festival. Mr. Ratiram Khakha, technical assistant, set up the 5.1 surround system for the film screening and Amit Parichha, lab assistant did the video and still photography along with the students. Our Strategic Academic Advisory Board members Mr. Satyajit Puhan and Subrat Beura have conceived the event with the support of our loving Fr. Paul, Vice Chancellor of XUB and the dean of XCOMM.
A one day Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR) conference titled Inclusive India Forum 2016 was organized in collaboration with Harvard Business School Club of Indiaand Xavier University Bhubaneswar.The event washeld at Xavier Institute of Management, Xavier University Bhubaneswar, Odisha on 22nd Jan 2016.
The conference was facilitated by Dr. Subhasis Ray, Coordinator- Centre for Resettlement, Rehabilitation and Corporate Social Responsibilities. More than 90 participants from Government, Industry and NGOs participated. The Forum has identified its focus areas as Education, Employability and Healthcare.
The program was inaugurated by Mr. PradeepAmaat, Finance Minister, Government of Odisha. Panelists included 7 CEOs, leading NGO leaders and institution builders like PadmashreeDr. T. P. Das.
National round table discussion on optimal FPO Design and on Sustainable Agricultural Systems(SAS)was organized in XIMB on 18th and 19th Jan 2016 in coordination with NABARD Chair unit.Expected outcomes of the deliberations may be Optimal FPO Design,Optimal Institutional Architecture at District level,Convergence Strategy for making collective action by resource poor possible, Common understanding and appreciation of the different approaches to sustainable agricultural practices in India and agreement and agreement on some common terminologies for policy, Plan for compilation and codification of different sustainable agricultural practices,Draft on Transition Strategy & Policy for replication on sustainable agricultural practices.
ICIT is a premier international forum for sharing high quality research in the areas of Information Technology. XIMB,XUBhosted the 14th International Conference on Information Technology 21-23 December, in collaboration with Orissa Information Technology Society and IEEE.The conference signifies a milestone in keeping pace with the latest research trends in the various fields of IT.The three-day event comprised of several Keynote Addresses, Invited Talks and Paper presentations. There were 54 participants and 24 paper presentations during the conference.

The Annual General Body Meeting of the XIMB Alumni Association, a body registered at the national level was held during Sanidhya.
