Xavier University (XUB) views research as an activity where our core institutional values are expressed clearly. At XUB we recognize the need to participate in the global academic environment through high quality publications. At the same time, research at XUB is also driven by the need to engage with specific clients and user groups, in accordance with our vision and values.

 

In order that research activities at the University may add up to create a big picture consistent with our vision, XUB provides various institutional mechanisms to promote information sharing, shared understanding, extended research-oriented engagements with potential clients/users, and meaningful collaborations. overall, research at XUB seek the exciting frontiers of capacity building, social innovation, collective intelligence, human development, and such other ends as relevant to the mission of the various schools under the university.

The ‘Doctor of Philosophy’ (Ph.D.) program, intended to prepare the participants for teaching and research positions both within and outside academia. The participants who complete the program successfully are conferred the designation of “Doctor of Philosophy in ____________, Xavier University Bhubaneswar”. Our Scholars are expected to be specialists in their respective fields and capable of generating new knowledge that contributes to the development of management thinking and practice.

 

The program draws upon Indian and global experience in doctoral education in management and various related fields. The program is also designed to serve as a venue for nurturing various academic debates concerning research. The program structure includes a significant component of research training, facilitated by both in-house and visiting researchers. Ph.D. Scholars are expected to develop deep understanding in the areas of research selected by them. They also get a structured exposure to a range of management topics, develop various professional skills, and participate in the Institute’s academic activities.

  • Integrity and excellence in Research through research training, original research, and dissemination
  • To prepare students for professional leadership in the respective field of choice.
  • To facilitate research entrepreneurship wherein researchers are encouraged to explore themselves, ask questions, actively seek peers’ feedback, build conviction in their ideas with peers in specific and society in general.
  • To make scholarly contributions to XUB’s endeavor towards sustainability, Entrepreneurships and Analytics (SEA) by understanding those issues which are fundamental to research enquiry.

ELIGIBILITY AND ADMISSION PROCESS
XUB offers the following two PhD programs :
  • Ph.D. (Full-Time): This program is intended to prepare full-time participants for research and teaching positions both within and outside academia.
  • Ph.D. (Part-Time): This program has been designed to cater to the scholarly needs of candidates who are in a full-time employment.

SCHOLARSHIPS AND OTHER SUPPORTS

Candidates joining the Ph.D. (Full-Time) Program will be given “University Sponsored” scholarship of 30,000 INR per month (for a duration of 4 years), subject to the information that they are not in recipient of any other financial support from any other sources. Candidates may also work as a Research & Teaching Assistant (RTAs) or participate in teaching assignments, research projects.

Candidate Categories:

The candidates who will be offered admission into the doctoral program will be classified in two categories:

  • Category I (Domain Candidates): These candidates have the requisite domain-level qualification as given in the table below (received within the last 5 years) at the time of admission.
  • Category II (Other Candidates): These candidates are applicants who do not meet the requirements of Domain Candidates as documented below

* Students with Master’s degree in Psychology may have to take additional courses in the field of HRM after admission.

Master degree in Rural Management / Rural Development / Social Work.
XAHS
For Ph.D- Urban Management and Governance:
Master’s degree or equivalent in Business Administration / Planning / Urban Design / Urban Development / Public Policy / Political Science / Public Administration / Governance or related specializations.
For PhD-Planning:
Master’s degree or equivalent in Planning / Urban Design / Urban Development or related specializations.

Master’s degree in Sustainability Management / Environmental Science / Social Works. OR
Master’s degree in Engineering / Technology (Biological Sciences and Bio-Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering).
XSOC
Master’s degree or equivalent in Accounting / Finance / Marketing. Professional qualifications such as CA, CMA, CFA, and CS shall be an added advantage.
XCOMM
Master’s degree in Communication and Journalism/Visual Communication/Communication/Electronic Media/New media/Fine Arts/ Advertising and Public Relations/Broadcast Communication /Film Studies/English language and literature, OR a professional Degree in the stream of communication declared equivalent by the corresponding statuary regulatory body.

Comprehensive Qualifying Examination:

The Comprehensive qualifying examination will be conducted after the successful completion of doctoral course work. After successful completion of the comprehensive qualifying examination, the student will be allowed to proceed to the Thesis Phase.

Thesis Phase:

This phase will involve working on the thesis proposal till final submission of thesis. The scholar is conferred the title as given below on successful completion of all the requirements of the thesis.

Any extension of time beyond the expected completion duration as noted above will be based on review of progress status of the scholars in concern. Students failing to comply with the program requirements will be de-registered. A student has to meet all the requirements of the Doctoral Program according to prescribed standards and no exemption will be granted for any reason whatsoever.
