POSTGRADUATE PROGRAM IN BUSINESS FINANCE (MBF)
OFFERED BY XAVIER SCHOOL OF COMMERCE

Eligibility

B.Com (Accounting/Finance), or B.Sc. (Mathematics/Statistics), or B.A./B.Sc. (Economics), or B.Tech, or CA/CS/CMA, with at least 55% marks in aggregate, from a recognized University. Final year degree students, who expect to complete their final examinations and other requirements for obtaining the degree by June 15, 2020, can also apply.

Admission Test

Applicants are required to take any one of the Admission Tests:
a) XAT to be conducted by XLRI, Jamshedpur, on January 05, 2020, or
b) CAT to be conducted by IIMs on November 24, 2019, or
c) NMAT by GMAC to be conducted during October – December 2019, or
d) GMAT taken in 2018 or 2019, or
e) X-GMT to be conducted by Xavier University, Bhubaneswar on January 25, 2020.
Applicants opting for XAT/CAT have to follow XAT/CAT advertisements respectively and apply in time. Registering for XAT/CAT/GMAT/NMAT is a prerequisite for applying to XUB, if not opting for X-GMT.

XUB Application

Applicants also have to fill up the online application form separately for XUB programme at: www.xub.edu.in . Upon successfully filling the online application form and paying the relevant application fee, the applicant will be intimated by email about the acceptance of the form.

It may be noted that besides registering for XAT/CAT/GMAT/NMAT, one has to apply (online) separately to Xavier University, Bhubaneswar.

Selection Process

The Institute will decide the section-wise as well as total cut-off marks which will be used for short-listing the candidates to be called for Writing Ability Test, Group Discussion and Personal Interview. WAT, GD & PI will be held in Bangalore, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai. Candidates will have to meet their own travel expenses for appearing in the Interview session. The final selection will be made on the basis of the candidate's performance in the XAT/CAT/GMAT/X-GMT/NMAT as well as in the Writing Ability Test, Group Discussion and Personal Interview (which factors in the past academic record and relevant work experience). The selected candidates will be informed by mail in the month of April 2020.

Admission

The program will commence by the middle of June 2020 for the first-year students. At this time the students will be given a Manual of Policies and Regulations which will be binding on them.

PROGRAM DETAILS
TWO-YEAR FULL-TIME MASTER'S PROGRAM IN FINANCE
MBF is a new specialized 2-year, full-time program which aims at helping students sharpen their conceptual as well as analytical skills in the areas of financial decision-making.
ACADEMIC SYSTEM

Program Structure:
MBF program in Finance comprising 4 semesters in two years. The course curriculum has 94 credits of classroom instruction and other credit components including two sets of elective specializations – “Banking and Insurance”, and “Finance”. In addition to this, the program covers immersion courses on current issues, seminars, workshops and interaction with industry experts.

 

In the first two semesters, students get inputs on the basic areas such as Financial Accounting, Financial Management, Corporate Laws, Statistics, Economics, Research Methodology, MIS, Quantitative Techniques and many more. These core courses set the foundation for more advanced courses such as Project Planning, Appraisal and Finance, Behavioral Finance, Financial Modeling, Business Analytics, Corporate Tax Planning and so on. In the fourth semester students will be required to opt for the electives of their choice. Currently, two sets of elective specializations are offered- “Banking and Insurance”, and “Finance”, out of which each student will have to select one. While the program covers a wide range of courses, “finance” remains the main focus area. The knowledge base of the students also gets further strengthened by summer projects, immersion courses on current issues, seminars, workshops and interaction with industry experts


This program which is a fine blend of theory and practice will make the students ready, at the end of two years, to face the challenges of tomorrow. It is expected that the students will get rewarding career options in the field of Corporate Finance, Merchant Banking, Venture Capital, Investment Advisory Services, Portfolio Management, Forex Advisory Services etc.
